Approach - AP doesn't keep B-58 centered on ILS

Post by petenoak » Wed May 20, 2015 2:14 pm

I've just started flying with the Glowingheat B-58 Hustler. I'm getting better at handling this a/c on Takeoffs, Climbs and in Cruise mode.

I've been able to land this plane but only manually. When I try to use the AP the plane drifts back and forth, left then right of the ILS radial dialed in on the Nav radio. It seems like the AP has trouble keeping this heavy plane centered and keeps over correcting.

I've tried using the Tweaks suggested in this forum but still have this same difficulty with the AP.

I'm not sure what I may be doing wrong.

Hi Peter,

Make sure you have as little fuel as possible, and that the aircraft is as lined up as possible to give the autopilot less work to do.

Hope that helps.

David.

Thank you for this. I think that I had been late in trying to lock on to the ILS. I'm having better success by getting the plane lined up at least 20nm out.
