Enterprise FAQ - AI Boat Traffic in Saved Flight

Post by fsafranek » Fri Feb 15, 2013 8:23 pm

In response to questions about reopening a previously saved flight and not being able to go back to where the Enterprise was, the following might be useful in helping folks understand the limitations of AI Boat Traffic schedules.

---

If you install and activate everything included in the FSX and P3D packages as described on page 3 of the User Manual then the ships (in all 17 locations) will be making their scheduled traffic routes as often as we have programmed them to do so. This is roughly every two hours since AI Boat traffic doesn't seem to be as reliable as AI Aircraft traffic. (We called these moving boats "AI Carriers" in the manual but please don't confuse this term with the "AICarriers" add-on program by Lamont Clark that we mention in Appendix A.)

As described on page 24 we have included Saved Flights for all locations. These are designed to place you about 10 miles astern of the carrier when you start them. As mentioned above, because AI Boat movements are not as accurate as AI Aircraft flights there may be times when the ship is not where you expect it to be when you load a Saved Flight. As described in the manual, when this happens we suggest you reload the flight.

When you save a flight you are only saving information about your own aircraft and the environment around you -- aircraft information, time of day, weather, etc. You are not saving information about the carrier. For this reason it is entirely possible when you restart a saved flight everything will not be as it was. The carrier may no longer be at that location because it is on its own timetable completely independent of your flight. This is also why you cannot reliably save a flight with your aircraft parked on the moving carrier deck.
