The Enterprise in P3DV5

Post by retnavycpo » Sat Jun 13, 2020 10:01 pm

I installed the Enterprise (1st release) in P3DV5. The ship looks beautiful, but two problems. The first is the ship is not moving, and the second is there is no wake effect. I have tried suggested effect file, mentioned in a different thread on the forum, but the problem of the missing wake persists. Pete

At this time we do not formally support P3Dv5 in any of our products. We have to get it working properly on our own systems first and that will require some hardware upgrades.
No time frame for that has been determined yet.

The image below is of both versions of the Enterprises in P3Dv5. On the left is the original release (F-14s) using the default carrier wake and on the right is the "Final Cruises" version (F/A-18s) using the wake we provide.
The ships were launched for the image using AI Carriers. The lines in the sim.cfg file are these:

Code: Select all

[Effects]
wake = fx_wake_carrier
and

Code: Select all

[Effects]
wake = fx_CVN65_wake
.

Did some further testing to cover all bases. The ships do move in P3Dv5. And once they are moving the wakes will appear.

So the question is how they are being made to move.
1) If using AI Carriers to place them and then select "Forward" in the menu they will move immediately and show a wake.

2) If using the traffic files provided with the ships there seems to be a longer than usual pause in P3Dv5 before they start. But they will start. However, it might take five minutes or so.
They seem to back up a bit and then spin 180 degrees before moving forward. This also occurs at the end of the route before they repeat. So it is all about timing.
And like any AI traffic it is wonky to begin with -- the elements (carrier, escort, and plane guard chopper) may get out of formation.

For this test I created an Addon Scenery folder in P3Dv5 and put the East and West coast traffic groups from the first Enterprise in there. Then I activated both in the traditional way in Scenery Library.

If using SimWorks Studios Fleet Placer then all bets are off. But if you have made the necessary files to make that work we would love to check them out.

I have both version of the Enterprise, original and Final cruises and they both work fine in P3dv5.

The Final Cruises has bad texture blurring on the deck, while the "old" version is good. Is there a fix for this? Maybe copy over some textures?

I don't think swapping textures is the solution. I have to go to work now but I'll dig into this when I get home tonight.
Sounds familiar though so I may have an email from our shipbuilder about this. Nice pictures though. :-)

I see some of the same but not to that degree. The tie downs up at the bow are not as clear from the touchdown area in the Final Cruises version as they are in the original. They both use 2048x2048 textures.

Our shipbuilder responded with this:
It's weird as both version have very close flight deck textures.
If nothing changed into his graphic settings in between the 2 screen shots, I don't really understand what happens.
I don't remember if we put some light textures into the package but I don't think so.
Did he change any thing into his texture files?

Thanks for the reply. Nothing is changed in the files, settings in fact both these ships are just off Norfolk in the same flight session. I fly between them, your included traffic files puts them fairly close. Its just the textures on the Final Cruise version angle deck portion, you can see the textures are sharp again up at the bow.
