Introduction

Convair’s B-58 Hustler is the sleekest, sexiest bomber to emerge from the Cold War era. While the aircraft never saw combat, its high performance was an effective deterrent to the Soviet threat. A delta-wing design with four underslung engines, this aircraft’s imposing appearance had as much effect on the design of American cars through the 1960’s, which sprouted fins with alarming regularity as an homage to the coming of the jet age. The Hustler was very sophisticated for it's time and was the fastest strategic bomber on the planet. Contrary to popular belief the Hustler was relatively straight forward to fly so long as it was flown within it's limits.

It entered service in 1960, and served just ten years, with the last aircraft being mothballed in 1970. Five short years later, all stored B-58 Hustlers were sold for scrap, marking the end the line for a short-lived but glorious part of USAF history.

Version 1.1 Developers Pro Enhancement Features
  • Enhanced flight model characteristics including input from Beryl Erickson (Chief Test Pilot for the B-58 Hustler program) including the supersonic wall and correct fuel consumption figures.
  • Enhanced/Revised cockpit gauges and revised 2D and VC panels
  • Fuel Panel including Fuel transfer switches used for maintaining correct Centre of Gravity. Fuel tank selectors are also included.
  • Refueling door switch now refuels your fuselage tanks to approx. 75% fuel
  • SCP and TCP Fuel Pod release switches now affect the fuel load - when you jettison the pod, you jettison the fuel in them!!!
You must reload the aircraft to add fuel back into them!!
  • Various VC enhancements with more detailing on the textures, and a few modelling changes.
  • Revised Checklists including Kneeboard links to instructional pages about the VC switches, landing tutorial including video (thanks for making it look easy Jay), and an information page about the various weapons the Hustler carried.
  • 2 User flights - One that takes you from Guam to Hong Kong where you will be experiencing the Mach 1 wall, and must maintain a correct fuel consumption to complete the flight on a full fuel load. And the other replicates the low level flight from Carswell to Edwards in 'Little Joe'. This flight took place at 500 feet AGL or less and Mach 0.92 all the way to a simulated bomb run at Edwards AFB and back!!
  • This Developers enhancement is available at no charge to make the flying characteristics just that bit more challenging.
